The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia ruled Friday there’s no need to notify parents before or after giving a teenager the morning-after pill, which may sometimes cause an abortion.
Melissa Anspach, then 16, visited the city health clinic in January 2004 and spoke briefly with a social worker before a nurse gave her one dose at the clinic and a second dose to take 12 hours later. She experienced severe abdominal pains and vomiting after taking the medication. She told her parents about the drug, and they took her to a hospital, where she was treated and released, The Associated Press reported.
The Anspachs raised religious objections to the clinic’s actions.
Judge Theodore McKee wrote: “The Constitution does not impose an affirmative obligation on (the) defendants to ensure that children abide by their parents’ wishes, values or religious beliefs.”
Randy Wenger, chief counsel for the Pennsylvania Family Institute, sees it differently.
“It’s not a good decision for parents, and it was not a good decision for teenagers, either,” he said. “In this country, we have a very elevated view of the individual, where an individual can make whatever stupid choice they want. Teenagers don’t always make good choices.”
Wenger also pointed out that Pennsylvania has a law requiring parental consent before a teenager has an abortion.
“The court’s decision basically bypasses even the minimal safeguards the Legislature put in place,” he said.

Karin - Did you delete the thread about Elton John because people started sending you pictures like this?
http://www.wmofa.com/gallery/Dossi,_Dosso/Madonna_and_Child_1525.jpg
Morning Esther…
No, I actually deleted the post about Elton John and his “possible” kiddie porn becuase the picture I had attached to my post, could of been an “occasion of sin” for some people that are attracted to these types of things.
So what about all those Madonna and Child paintings - do they create an ““occasion of sin?”
Me thinks that you and your ilk are overly obsessed with sex in general and homosexuality in particular.
Me and my ilk, Esther?
What “ilk” would that be?
I guess you and yours have no issues with Playboy/Playgirl or other forms of Porn?! Do you think it is totally acceptable to degrade woman /men in this manner? How would you feel to see your daughter(s) naked and spread eagle in the centerfold of Playboy for all to see or via some other medium? Would you and your husband be proud and show of the picture to family, friends and co-workers?
In regards to homosexuals, not obsessed at all. But when I see something that I and others find morally wrong (abortion, murder, homosexual acts, catholic bashing, birth control etc.), I do not sit on my hands and not say anything. Just as you voice your thoughts on what you feel strongly about
Are we not all given this right? Here is an article, http://www.traditionalvalues.org/pdf_files/TVCSpecialRptHomosexualRecruitChildren.PDF, let me know if this is what you want your kids to learn in school.
I do understand Esther that you and others have no issue(s) with many of the things that I blog about and I respect your choices. But I do not have to agree with them nor do I have to except them.
Esther,
Have you noticed how much sex there is in the media today?
Sex in music lyrics, sex in films, sex on t.v. ,sex in magazines …everywhere our kids turn they are bombarded with sex.
When do we as parents say enough? I for one do not want to see my kids emulating Britney Spears in dress (or whomever is the current “in” person). I want them to be allowed to be “children”.
So what about all those Madonna and Child paintings - do they create an ““occasion of sin?”
For some I am sure that it does. Just as I am sure that the statue of David might have that effect on people.
THIS POST HAS BEEN MODERATED!

We weren’t talking about porn, we were talking about art. Rather than worrying so much about what turns other people on and castigating people for being sinful, why not focus on performing good works and making the world into a better place for people to live?

Last time I checked TV sets had a on/off switch. You might try using it of you don’t like what you see.

I’ve said enough in my household but I’ve got enough on my plate and can’t take on other people’s parental roles.
“So what about all those Madonna and Child paintings - do they create an ““occasion of sin?” ”
For some I am sure that it does. Just as I am sure that the statue of David might have that effect on people.
And some people get turned on by feet and shoes. Should we ban footwear?
Karin, I think you exercised prudential judgment in removing that post. I was over on Terry’s blog yesterday, and he removed a suggestive picture of a homosexual (the gay fest Miller brewery one) when one of his readers said it was an occasion of sin for him.
Good for you Karin!
It wasn’t an occasion of sin for most, but would’ve been for some–Good call in removing it!
I.R. & PG-
Thank you both.

Yes, and judging from the traffic that Karin is getting here from certain crowds, I think she did the right thing.
